Reelybored Horror is planning on opening up a new section on the website dedicated to all things horror literature, short fiction, dark poetry, true tales of the supernatural/paranormal, etc. you get the picture. I am also considering having a section up for fan fiction but I’m still debating that one So long as the theme revolves around, horror, mystery, thriller, the paranormal, etc.

Just a note, this is simply for the enjoyment of readers of your work or if you want another outlet to show your work. So, in other words, there is no money involved. I am, however, looking for quality work. Not necessarily professional, but needs to be well-written. When submitting work be sure to include a short, mini-bio and a small photo of yourself if you’d like to be included along with your work. Submit as much as you would like!

Contrary to popular belief, I also like other types of movies aside from my belove horror films. Films like “The Thomas Crowne Affair,” or pretty much any James Bond Film may have their moments of comic relief, but they’re not exactly built to be laughed at. Romantic Comedies, on the other hand, often fall into the categories of cheesy and predictable. That’s why the blunder-centered comedy is such a fantastic find in the cinemascape.

I’m especially looking forward to “Identity Thief” due out on Feb. 8th. Who doesn’t love Melissa McCarthy — who, by the way, is Jenny McCarthy’s cousin — unconditionally? The combination of the perfectly vanilla Jason Bateman and the usually sweet McCarthy has us salivating. The story adds a comedic twist on the growing problem of identity theft. When Bateman’s character “Sandy Bigelow Patterson’s” identity gets assumed by the quirky McCarthy, misadventures and car chases ensue. Although we’re pretty sure that services like Lifelock would do a better job of taking care of such problems in the real world, the world of movies is so much more fun.

The booby trap in horror, or any film for that matter, can be quite the spectacle as we wait in anticipation to witness what happens when that chain of events is triggered by stepping on the wrong stone or touching something you weren’t supposed to touch. Usually, the end result is nothing good and oftentimes our characters fall victim to these traps unless of course they’re the protagonist/hero of the film. Let’s explore some of the more memorable horror films that feature some rather unique methods of killing by way of the booby trap.

Popcorn Horror, is the brain child of Felix Gilfedder an independent filmmaker from Glasgow, Scotland. Making his first films after picking up his fathers Super 8mm Cassette camera at the age of 8, there was no going back. From there via a Masters in History, a stint at Sydney University doing Digital Film, traveling the world, making 10 independent short films and a few film awards he decided to try and blend his love of films, horror and technology on the mobile phone platform – an app that would be empowering to filmmakers, an app deserving of horror fans and an app that would change and grow with it’s audience.

I would’ve loved to be at an understanding age when Orson Welles unleashed his masterpiece “The War of the Worlds” on the radio in 1938.  There’s that old and true saying when it comes to horror films, that less is more.  Honestly, the scariest thing you and I will ever see is whatever our imagination can design from scratch.  Seriously think about it for a second.  When we hear that something so god-awful is happening, our psyche goes into the darkest realms, and it pulls out an image that makes us lose our minds and makes us forget to breathe.  That’s why Welles’ radio show worked so well. That’s why it terrified radio listeners to the point of causing sheer mayhem.

Once upon a time, we were all three-foot terrors who, more likely than not, have been the cause of numerous bouts of depression and anxiety for our parents. Despite the horrors that we brought upon our parents, we were loved nonetheless – well, at least those of us who had the luxury of being brought up by mother and father (a luxury to some, a nightmare for others).

Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of “meeting” horror photographer Lauren Freedman. A former local resident of the Hudson Valley here in New York, Lauren has recently departed to the Sunshine state, Florida, where I am sure that she will continue awing clients with her photographic skills.

I first became a fan of horror movies as a young boy. While other kids were playing in the park or following a strange looking man into his van, I was in front of the TV watching scary movie marathons without adult supervision. I officially fell in love with the genre the first time I saw pea soup being hurled from a young Linda Blair’s mouth.

(Erotic Fun Fact: I officially fell in love with Linda Blair after seeing her prison shower scene in the 1983 sexploitation flick Chained Heat.)

From then on I was having nightmares on Elm Street, wearing hockey masks on Friday the 13th, and escaping mental institutions on Halloween (OK…I only did that once).
