My wife and I were recently blessed with a daughter and we could not be more happier than we have been these first three months. However, that is not to say that our little baby girl, who was born premature at 3lbs., has the lungs of a seasoned opera singer that would probably put Plácido Domingo to shame – yes, she is that loud and has been the subject of many nights of sheer terror and sleepless nights, for mommy and daddy of course. So yes, I guess you can say that there is an underlying horror in this post.

Contrary to popular belief, I also like other types of movies aside from my belove horror films. Films like “The Thomas Crowne Affair,” or pretty much any James Bond Film may have their moments of comic relief, but they’re not exactly built to be laughed at. Romantic Comedies, on the other hand, often fall into the categories of cheesy and predictable. That’s why the blunder-centered comedy is such a fantastic find in the cinemascape.

I’m especially looking forward to “Identity Thief” due out on Feb. 8th. Who doesn’t love Melissa McCarthy — who, by the way, is Jenny McCarthy’s cousin — unconditionally? The combination of the perfectly vanilla Jason Bateman and the usually sweet McCarthy has us salivating. The story adds a comedic twist on the growing problem of identity theft. When Bateman’s character “Sandy Bigelow Patterson’s” identity gets assumed by the quirky McCarthy, misadventures and car chases ensue. Although we’re pretty sure that services like Lifelock would do a better job of taking care of such problems in the real world, the world of movies is so much more fun.

Not every horror film can be a “Psycho” or even a “Dawn of the Dead,” but there are a special few that stand out. Once in a blue (or full) moon, someone makes an unintentionally amazing comedy under the guise of horror. When it happens, some scoff and some sing delighted praises, but even the naysayers seem generally entertained. Whether you’re being chased by extra terrestrial slime, or living in a world where you have to watch your back at every step, the world of cheesy “scares” is worth dipping your feet into. If you’re on this site, you’re probably familiar with these gems already, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth revisiting to marvel in their awesome, cheesy glory.

Like any successful movie franchise, its novelty eventually wears off and audiences scurry off to the next best thing – at least for the most part (see Saw). When I initially saw the teaser for the latest installment in the Paranormal Activity series I scoffed and told myself that I probably won’t be spending my money on this film, especially after it seemed that the series was heading in a direction that didn’t interest me, specifically, the Bloody Mary angle. As is usually the case, curiosity peaked its tiny little head and bit me in the rear end prompting me towards the movie theater. Needless to say, I’m glad it did. For those wondering, my life is still in tact as the last 15 minutes did NOT mess up my life as promised in the television promos.

Got your attention yet? Good, because this catchy title is what first intrigued me into taking a further look into the webseries that is the Vampire Mob. Created by writer/director Joe Wilson, Vampire Mob is a unique blend of crime and comedy of the intelligent kind. No slapstick here, but genuine laughs provided by Wilson’s smart and witty scriptwriting.

HADDONFIELD, IL – In a fit of rage mental ward escapee, Michael Myers, lunged at a panel of judges where a local spelling bee competition for degenerates was taking place in Haddonfield High. The 54 year-old went ballistic when he understood that the word he was being asked to spell was “whore”, (W-H-O-R-E), which ignited thoughts of his deceased mother. Of course, the word was not “whore” but “horror” (H-O-R-R-O-R). Unfortunately for both Mr. Myers, and the judges, his hearing was obscured by the closed and probably rotted mask. Unfortunate for Michael because he lost his fifth straight spelling bee competition and unfortunate for the judges, well, because they’re dead.

Realizing his mistake, Mikey Myers did right by spelling the correct word then walking away in shame.
